Do I Have to Keep Up With Continuing Education if I’m With a Referral Brokerage in Florida?
If you join a referral brokerage in Florida, can you skip your continuing education requirements?
The short answer: No. As long as you hold an active Florida real estate license — even if you’re not selling full-time — you’re required by the Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC) to complete your continuing education on schedule.
Why Continuing Education Still Applies
In Florida, your license status determines your CE requirements — not the type of brokerage you’re with. That means whether you’re:
Working full-time with a traditional brokerage
Part-time in real estate
Exclusively with a referral brokerage like CrossView Referral Realty
… you still have to meet the same education deadlines to keep your license active.
The Current Florida CE Requirements
For most license renewals, Florida requires:
14 hours of continuing education every two years
This includes 3 hours of Core Law, 3 hours of Ethics and Business Practices, and 8 hours of specialty credit
If you’re a new licensee, your first renewal requires a 45-hour post-licensing course instead.
Why It’s Worth It — Even as a Referral Agent
Yes, CE is an extra step, but it’s your ticket to keeping your earning potential alive. Without it, your license will go inactive or expire — and you won’t be able to legally collect referral fees.
When you consider that one referral in Florida can easily earn you $2,000+ (and sometimes much more), the time and cost of CE is a small investment for the return.
How CrossView Referral Realty Makes It Easier
While we don’t provide CE courses directly, we’ll:
Remind you of your renewal deadlines
Share links to approved education providers
Keep Your License Active, Keep the Income Flowing
